Safeway CEO wants simpler pricing from vendors

Safeway chairman, president and CEO Steve Burd, addressing the Back-to-School Consumer Conference, said his company will seek to move to dead-net pricing for the goods it buys from vendors and phase out allowances. Burd added that as Safeway's strategies help to increase sales of groceries and general merchandise, "we would expect to pay less for the products."
