Autonomous platforms could reduce maintenance staff for drones

The Air Force has called the manning of unmanned platforms "its most critical staffing problem," according to a recent Defense Science Board study. The study examines the advantages of autonomous military platforms, and compares the number of personnel required to operate two unmanned aerial vehicles used by the Air Force. "Maintenance accounts for the biggest share" of employees needed to keep both vehicles in the air, the report says.
