Court examines the boundaries of power over Internet traffic

A federal appeals court heard oral arguments this week in a case that observers say could change the nature of the Internet by determining the extent of the federal government's authority to regulate it. Verizon Communications is challenging the Federal Communications Commission's Open Internet Order, which prohibits Internet service providers from favoring some traffic. The case is expected to be decided this year or early in 2014.
