Pitts: Companies should not mistake sponsored ads for social media

In a recent blog post on Drugwonks.com, Peter Pitts, President and Co-founder of the Center for Medicine in the Public Interest, reminded industry that “social media” should not be confused with sponsored tweets, which are paid advertisements. Pitts cites AstraZeneca’s recent withdrawal of paid ads from the Associated Press’ Twitter feed, because although the content was unbranded, expanded tweets for the company’s acid reflux drug Nexium revealed the brand name.
