Melbourne, Australia, has won international acclaim for sustainability efforts that began more than 15 years ago. A key concept in the program's success is not the office buildings or transportation system, but the lifestyle choices and homes of the residents. Two examples of innovation in home design are zero-carbon homes built on 5-by-4-meter plots of land and a new community-living complex of 20 residences.
