U.K. group calls for treatments for drug-resistant "superbugs"

The use of antibiotics to treat simple ailments such as coughs and colds contributes to growing resistance of "superbugs" to prescription drugs, the British Health Protection Agency warned. The HPA also called on pharmaceutical companies to step up development of new treatments to combat a worsening outbreak of drug-resistant superbugs, including gram-negative bacteria.
