Ill. students get hands-on training at railway manufacturer

Through a cooperative placement program at the Mt. Vernon Area Vocational Center in Illinois, two high-school students are working at locomotive and railway manufacturer National Railway. The assignment helped high-school senior Jacob Williamson commit to a career in mechanical engineering. "After this experience, seeing how it really is in the workforce, I want to pursue it," he said, adding, "It's just stuff you can't learn in a classroom. It's hands-on."
