Proposal may curb patents, reduce drug prices in South Africa

South Africa's Department of Industry proposed an intellectual property policy that could cut drug prices and impede some patents. The draft policy amends legislation to give the government greater flexibility in purchasing affordable drugs, and proposes the introduction of a transparent and strict process for patent applications.
