IOM: Cases of child neglect appear unchanged in past 20 years

An Institute of Medicine report revealed that cases of reported physical and sexual abuse in children significantly dropped in the past two decades, but child neglect rates did not change, accounting for 75% of all reported cases of abuse. Nearly 677,000 children were reported to state child protective services agencies in 2011 as victims of abuse or neglect, including 1,545 who died.
