BASF forms team to explore lightweight-material technologies

BASF has established a lightweight-composites team to create lightweight-design innovations for automotive applications. Metal is a material that can be replaced with lightweight components that can help reduce car emissions, BASF said. "We can build here on BASF's know-how in the areas of epoxy, polyurethane and polyamide chemistry, want to exploit the synergies in the team, and will be making a double-digit million euro investment in development in the coming years," said Willy Hoven-Nievelstein, head of BASF's European engineering plastics unit.
