How some teachers spent their summer vacation

Several teachers in Pennsylvania continued working over the summer, through professional development or service activities. First-grade teacher Carol Hendershot helped three schools in Haiti over the break, and high-school biology teacher Tim Lloyd studied different species of mussels in the Ohio River. High-school physics teacher Cheryl Harper said she is eager to use her experience at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, Calif., in her classroom lessons.
