HHS report recommends faster collection of CMS claims data

The HHS Office of the Inspector General advised the CMS to step up efforts in collecting and analyzing data in order to more effectively prevent fraudulent claims. The recommendation is part of a report that looked into an earlier study on the Medicaid Statistical Information System, a state reporting tool for fee-for-service claims data that was created to help detect fraud and abuse in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
