Million Hearts campaign focuses on disease prevention

A coalition of health care providers, businesses, community groups and the government on Wednesday launched the Million Hearts campaign, which focuses on cardiovascular disease prevention and calls for reducing the number of strokes and heart attacks by 1 million over five years. The first step is awarding $85 million in grants to 10 states for programs that prevent chronic diseases linked to heart disease, such as obesity, diabetes and high cholesterol. "Improving prevention and care is the goal," said HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.
