Railroads buck economic pessimism as traffic climbs

Railroads offer an antidote to the pessimism plaguing Wall Street today. Rail traffic, intermodal traffic and other industry indicators suggest that the industry -- and broader economy -- remain on track to recovery. "There seems to be a drumbeat lately on how all the economic news is bad," said Dan Keen, an economist and policy analyst with the Association of American Railroads. "You can't really say that about the rail data."
