Will Google's social tool hurt friendship with Facebook?

Google chief executive Eric Schmidt has made official what has been rumored for months: The online giant is adding a "social layer" to its online search, video and mapping offerings. Schmidt, who was speaking to a group of reporters in Arizona, would not provide any details for the social initiative, which is thought to put Google in direct competition with Facebook.
