Court urged to accept Halliburton's guilty plea on tampering with Gulf spill evidence

U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo should accept Halliburton's guilty plea on charges of destroying 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill-related evidence, according to a filing from the company and the Department of Justice. The deal, which would impose a three-year probation period on Halliburton, as well as a $200,000 fine, is reasonable and fair, the parties said. "In arriving at the agreed-upon charge and admission of guilt, as well as the fine and terms of probation, the United States has considered a vast amount of complex factual and legal information developed over more than three years," the filing states.
