Census Bureau: Nearly one in six Americans is uninsured

The number of uninsured Americans reached 50.7 million in 2009 -- 16.7% of the country -- according to the Census Bureau. Experts say that because of recession-related unemployment and rising costs of medical care, the uninsured population will likely grow until 2014, when major provisions of the health reform law are fully in effect.
