Analyst: Without Apple and Disney, UltraViolet faces tough going

The Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem consortium's UltraViolet technology, which will enable digital content to play on a variety of products, could be attractive to consumers if it delivers on its promise of a "frictionless" experience in home media, said Ed Barton, director of the Digital Media Service at Strategy Analytics. Still, the absence of Apple and Disney from the consortium means UltraViolet may not stack up with consumers accustomed to obtaining content from iTunes and playing it on Apple products, Barton added.
