The financial crisis, which unfolded in force five years ago with the failure of Lehman Brothers, changed the way many advisers approach their work. One adviser who worked on commission says she re-evaluated her business model, and another has taken an entirely new approach to evaluating clients' risk tolerance. Many struggled with some form of post-traumatic stress disorder after markets tumbled, one study found.
