Experts: Firms deliver more Canada infrastructure work through joint ventures

Joint ventures are a trend for large construction projects in Canada, according to experts. "The projects are getting larger and more complex and riskier, and their delivery needs bigger organizations with more capacity and more skills," said Michael Atkinson of the Canadian Construction Association. Joint ventures are popular for helping save money and involving the latest construction technologies. "These trends are being facilitated by new technologies, such as [building information modeling], which enable companies to combine different aspects of the design, building and maintenance process that traditionally have been done separately," Atkinson said.
