Analysis: MSNBC looks to Chris Matthews for ratings boost

MSNBC, the third-rated cable news network, is hoping to hitch its star to political commentator and talk show host Chris Matthews, whose election coverage and on-air run-in with Georgia Sen. Zell Miller brought solid ratings and press. "Chris is emerging at exactly the right time to lead the way for us," said Phil Griffin, vice president of prime-time programming for the network.
