Rounds help nurses deal with emotional side of patient care

Overlook Hospital in Summit, N.J., is using the Schwartz Center Rounds program to help nurses and other care providers deal with issues in caring for end-of-life and ICU patients. The multidisciplinary rounds, which include clergy and social workers, give staff an opportunity to talk about the emotional side of patient care. A survey of professionals who had used the rounds found 84% said the the program helped them have more compassion for patients and families.
