FINRA warns of risk in private placements

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority has issued an investor alert that says private placements and other offerings of unregistered securities are "risky and can tie up your money for a long time." FINRA is worried that individual investors will suffer after a long-standing ban on general solicitation for private placements ends Monday. "Our concern now is that regular investors will be seeing these solicitations," said Gerri Walsh, senior vice president for investor education.
