Graphene photosensors could speed up chips, computers

09/18/2013 | TechCrunch

Researchers at the Vienna University of Technology have developed a graphene-based chip that can quickly convert photons into electrons, potentially enabling computers to move data at the speed of light. "There are many materials that can transform light into electrical signals, but graphene allows for a particularly fast conversion," researcher Thomas Müller wrote about the technology. "These technologies are not only important for transmitting data over large distances. Optical data transmission also becomes more and more important within computers themselves."
