Many doctors still work in physician-owned practices

A survey by the American Medical Association revealed that while the percentage of physician practice owners saw an 8 percentage point decline from 2007-2008 to 2012, 60% of U.S. doctors still work in such practices. The survey also found that 18% of physicians worked in solo practice in 2012, while 45.5% of doctors were in single specialty practice. Older physicians were more likely to have an ownership stake in their practice.
