Survey: Smartphone owners using handsets for almost 2 hours daily

Smartphone owners spend an average of 23 minutes a day talking on their devices, only a fraction of the 114 minutes they actually interact with their handsets, according to a report from the Consumer Electronics Association. At 20 minutes, texting was the second most common use, followed by e-mail, Web browsing and social media. "The degree to which consumers use their smartphones primarily as data information hubs, mostly forgoing devices' traditional purpose, is significant,” said Shawn DuBravac, CEA chief economist and senior director of research.
