Transplant may protect eyes from chemical or thermal trauma

Amniotic membrane transplants showed promise in preventing persistent corneal ulceration among 53 patients with severe chemical or thermal eye trauma, according to a study in the European Journal of Ophthalmology. Researchers observed epithelialization in 42 of the cases, while corneal ulcerations were thwarted in nearly all cases.
