Canine circovirus: A case study and an update

Veterinarians continue to search for the cause of severe, acute illness that led to the death of four of a dozen Ohio dogs with similar symptoms. A sample in one case tested positive for canine circovirus; results from additional tests are pending. The story of Hank, one of the Ohio dogs, is told in this article. There have been no new cases in the past week, according to Ohio state veterinarian Tony Forshey, but veterinarians are encouraged to report suspected cases and pet owners are advised to be cautious about allowing dogs to visit areas where many dogs congregate.
