Early-retirement pitch seeks to help USPS avoid layoffs

More than 15,500 workers are being offered early retirement by the U.S. Postal Service as it tries to avoid layoffs while reducing its workforce. Employees are expected to receive notices this week, and reportedly must decide by Nov. 29 whether to take the offer.
