Exchanges depending on brokers to boost enrollment

Health insurance exchange officials in Maryland, New York and elsewhere are relying on insurance brokers and agents to help individuals and small-business owners enroll in plans and meet the requirements of the Affordable Care Act. Small-business owners will depend on their brokers even more now, said Kelly Smith of New York State of Health. Brokers and agents in states that chose to have the federal government run their exchanges have been getting calls from consumers, but the federal government has not yet announced rates.
