Report recommends changes to update medical education system

Medical education has not kept pace with changes in health care delivery systems, and program sizes and specialty mix sometimes are at odds with workforce needs, the Council on Graduate Medical Education said in a report recommending changes in how physicians are trained. The report calls for six changes covering funding, recruiting, curricula and medical education research, many of which align with the AAFP's own recommendations.
