Study finds long-term diabetes control benefits from surgery

A study in the Annals of Surgery revealed many type 2 diabetes patients who underwent weight-loss surgery achieved long-term benefits including diabetes remission. At a median six years' follow-up, 24% attained complete remission, 26% showed partial remission and 34% showed improvements in diabetes control. Researchers also found that fewer patients needed insulin treatment, and they noted a decline in patients' heart risk factors.
