New biotech rice discoveries lead EU to reinforce controls

The European Union promised to reinforce controls on long-grain rice imports after shipments to the Netherlands and Belgium were found to contain an unapproved U.S. biotech variety. Authorities said the newly discovered imports had been certified as nonbiotech, but traces of Bayer CropScience's LL Rice 601 were found mixed with the commercial rice.
