Judge approves first payout to former Peregrine customers

Carol Doyle, a federal bankruptcy judge in Chicago, approved a plan by Peregrine Financial Group's trustee to return about $123 million to former customers of the collapsed brokerage. "This is the first big step," said Robert Fishman, the lawyer for the trustee. Fishman said the payouts will come in two waves in October.
