Solution to nurse shortage more than just adding new RNs

States are working with academia to increase the number of new nurses through scholarship and loan forgiveness programs, but some experts worry the efforts may not be enough to avert a nurse shortage crisis. Improvements in working conditions at hospitals -- from mandatory overtime and nurse-to-patient ratios to workplace violence -- are needed to keep RNs in the profession, experts say.
