Report: Ethanol makes net energy gain

Indications of a net energy gain from converting corn to ethanol show a boost in efficiency, says Harry Baumes, the acting director for the Agriculture Department's Office of Energy Policy and New Uses. Baumes made his conclusions based on a June USDA report, "2008 Energy Balance for the Corn-Ethanol Industry," that asked producers about corn-ethanol yield rates and energy usage at ethanol plants.
