Taiwan starts free education programme for young students

Taiwan is making primary education free for some 5- and 6-year-old children starting this school year. Taiwan's Ministry of Education says beginning this year, it will enroll aboriginal students and those who live on outlying islands. Children from lower-income families will be enrolled starting in the 2011 academic year before the programme is rolled out to other children in the targeted age group.
