Coalition calls for speedy review of device identifier rule

The Advancing Patient Safety Coalition has asked the Office of Management and Budget to expedite its review of the FDA's proposal to create a unique device identification system for medical devices. "It is imperative that OMB work expeditiously to release the proposed UDI rule, as the rule is critical to patient safety improvement initiatives and medical error reduction," the coalition said in a letter to Jacob Lew, the OMB's director.
