Petroleum economist defends safety of hydraulic fracturing

Hydraulic fracturing is done safely and is properly regulated by state officials, said John Felmy, the American Petroleum Institute's chief economist. Fears about fracking's impact on groundwater are baseless and additional oversight is unnecessary, Felmy said. "Before you call for more regulation, prove there's a problem first," he said.
