Apple crushes iPhone record with 9 million weekend orders

Apple fans surprised analysts by ordering the company's new iPhones in record numbers last weekend. The company today reported selling 9 million units (iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C combined), nearly doubling Apple's previous mark and far outpacing analysts' predictions of up to 7.75 million handsets. CEO Tim Cook, who said the company sold out of its 5S inventory, asked Apple fans for patience, saying stores were restocking "regularly." Apple's updated iOS 7 software also has proved to be popular; the company said 200 million devices are running the upgraded version.
