Managers often engage in role-playing, which affects their ability to lead, writes Keith Ayers, president of the Sydney, Australia-based Integro Leadership Institute. Acting out the role of the "boss," "the leader" or the "smarter person" can cause employees to lose their trust in the manager, which in turn affects their commitment and productivity, Ayers says.
