U.S. refuses to seek temporary stoppage of gas drilling in 2 states

The federal government rejected a lawmaker's request to try to temporarily prohibit natural gas production in New York and Pennsylvania's portions of the Delaware River watershed, said Brig. Gen. Peter DeLuca, commander of the North Atlantic Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Rep. Maurice Hinchey, D-N.Y., made the request, saying companies should wait until the Delaware River Basin Commission finalizes a "cumulative impact statement." That wait could push back drilling for years, DeLuca said.
