3 building initiatives focus on energy efficiency

Three initiatives have emerged to reduce building energy consumption by 60% to 70%, eventually leading existing and new structures to net-zero energy by 2030. The International Code Council is in the midst of developing the International Green Construction Code, which aims to make sustainability and energy-efficiency mandatory for all buildings. The Architect 2030 Challenge seeks to gradually cut energy consumption from 50% to net-zero by 2030, while the President's Climate Commitment sets a LEED Silver Certification goal for college campuses and encourages educational institutions to adopt sustainable practices.
