Australian state considers new authority to improve teaching, learning

Officials in New South Wales, Australia, are proposing to merge two existing bodies to create the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards, which will be charged with improving teacher quality and student achievement. Education Minister Adrian Piccoli said the overhaul was driven by a desire to improve teaching and learning by using assessment data and curriculum knowledge.
