Author stresses importance of quality teachers

The signs of a great teacher can be seen in classrooms in which teachers and students alike are engaged, writes Mary Amato, an author of books for children and former teacher. Training, recruiting and retaining high-quality classroom teachers should be a top priority under the Common Core State Standards, she writes in this commentary. "New standards, tests, and training won't necessarily deliver results. What guarantees great teaching and learning is a great teacher," she writes.
