Community-acquired MRSA cases on the rise among U.S. children

Pediatric cases of community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections increased from 1.1 for every 100,000 children and teens in 2005 to 1.7 in 2010, CDC researchers reported in the journal Pediatrics. The rate of health care-associated MRSA infections remained steady. MRSA infection rates were particularly high among infants younger than 3 months.
