Ill. appeals court finds in favor of professor who filed defamation suit

A lower-court ruling has been reversed in favor of a Northeastern Illinois University professor who alleges defamation in a lawsuit against the school. A university official is accused of falsely saying that Loretta Capeheart was the subject of stalking charges filed by a student. A state appeals court ruled that the school hadn't shown that the case was a strategic lawsuit against public participation, or SLAPP, under Illinois law, as the university has argued while seeking immunity in the case.
