Dextrose gel benefits newborns with low blood glucose

Rubbing dextrose gel into the inside of the cheek of babies with neonatal hypoglycemia led to fewer admissions to neonatal intensive care units, researchers from New Zealand found. The treatment was also linked to higher breast-feeding rates following discharge, according to the study in the journal The Lancet.
