Students have opportunity to retake exams after reteaching in Tenn. district

Officials in Nashville, Tenn., are touting the success of a new grading policy that assesses students solely on their work in the classroom, eliminates zeroes and offers students a second chance to take exams after reteaching. The standards-based system -- put in place at the start of the school year -- is intended to more accurately gauge students' understanding of academic content. A member of the Metro Nashville school board criticized the system as focusing too much on assessment.
