Task force issues mental health guidelines for student athletes

The National Athletic Trainers' Association, along with the AAP and other organizations, recognized the important role of athletic trainers in helping student athletes cope with their mental health issues. In a set of guidelines published in the Journal of Athletic Training, the task force encourages athletic trainers and team doctors to provide assistance in detecting possible mental health problems as well as offer advice and make treatment referrals when needed.
